Avandia

Avandia is used as part of a treatment program for type 2 diabetes. It is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and was first introduced to the market in 1999.

In 2007 the FDA requested three separate changes to the warning labels for Avandia, all of which included some form of warning about heart problems. Other serious side effects associated with the use of Avandia include:

  • Stroke
  • Liver toxicity
  • Primary pulmonary hypertension
  • Increased cholesterol levels
